While most liver transplant patients are not overwhelmed by depression nor attempt suicide, various examples of transplant patients committing suicide have been reported. Four case reports of transplant patients who actively attempted/committed suicde are given. The cases demonstrate how important psychiatric assessment is in the transplant selection phase as well as after the transplant. Patient education about the side effects of their medication is essential. (19 refs.)
