This study examined the suicide-related knowledge & attitudes of Australian teachers & clergy. Results confirmed that high numbers of these gatekeepers have been approached by suicidal youth. However, their ability to help may be impaired by a low level of knowledge of signs of suicide risk. Suicidal behaviour was generally regarded as unacceptable, especially by those with a high religious committment. The results of this study point to the need for further educational efforts for these groups.
