This article presents some preliminary results from a long-term follow-up study of 94 females with anorexia nervosa & compares them with those of other studies. The number of patients who had recovered increased steeply during the first 12 years after onset. The number of deaths from suicide or anorexia nervosa also increased. In total 5 of the 94 patients died by suicide, 2 in the first six years after onset & another 3 in the next 6 years. (27 refs.)
