This study explored whether 6 suicidologists could judge the sex & age of suicide victims who had left notes. 6 reviewers were given 40 suicide notes from Germany. They were told that 20 were from women & 20 were from men, but they were not given an age distribution. Notes were edited to remove clues to gender & age. The judges were correct for gender on only 21.80 of the notes versus a chance expectancy of 20.00, but on 9.67 of the notes for age versus a chance expectancy of 5.71.
