Sleep Disturbances and Suicidal Behavior in Patients With Major Depression
Agargun M Y~~Kara H~~Solmaz M
The association between sleep disturbance & suicidal behaviour in 113 patients with major depression was studied. The 89 patients with hypersomnia or insomnia had significantly higher scores on the SADS suicide subscale than the 20 without sleep disturbance. These patients were also significantly more likely to become suicidal. These data demonstrate that both insomnia & hypersomnia are associated with suicidal behaviour in patients with major depression. (13 refs.)
