This manual describes British Columbia’s efforts to reduce youth suicide. A section on understanding youth suicide/suicidal behavior is provided, including an ecological model for suicide & suicide’s factors of influence. A comprehensive approach to suicide prevention is recommended, focusing not only on risk-reduction but on promoting resilient outcomes as well. Roles of broader social influences are disucssed. The effectiveness of various strategies are considered. (40 refs.)
