This article focuses on nursing care for patients admitted because of a suicide attempt or who have a previous history of attempting suicide. The authors explore, analyse & synthesize how nurses may begin by recognizing the uniqueness of the individual & by cotravelling therapeutically with the person on part of their healing journey. Efforts are made to show how nurses can influence the health gain of these patients & their families. Professional attitudes & ethical issues are also discussed.
