This study presents findings from an updated retrospective cohort mortality study of male police officers in Buffalo, New York from January 1950-December 1990. Significantly higher than expected mortality rates were found for all-cause mortality & suicide. The rate of suicide was found to be significantly higher than the general population. Suicide was higher than expected for ages 35-44 & for 65+ years of age. Overall, increased rates for suicide were noted as years of service increased.
