Abstract
Cause-Specific Mortality in Epilepsy: a Cohort Study of More Than 9,000 Patients Once Hospitalized for Epilepsy
Nilsson L~~Tomson T~~et al
Overall & cause-specific mortality rates were studied in a large cohort of patients with epilepsy admitted for inpatient care between 1980-1989. These were compared to mortality rates of the general population in Stockholm County. Results indicated that the standardized mortality ratio was significantly increased in all age-groups. The number of deaths due to suicide was higher than expected. This large subgroup of patients, once hospitalized & discharged, is a population at risk. (22 refs.)
