This article reviews the debate on the restriction of access to means of suicide. The authors contend that guns should be restricted legally. As for herbicides, pesticides & prescription drugs, safer products should be developed. It is the clinician’s responsibility to ensure that patients do not receive or accumulate drugs that could be used for suicide. The importance of developing methods for identifying highly suicidal persons & treating them at the earliest possible stage is discussed.
