In this chapter, the authors focus on the psychopharmacological treament of patients hospitalized as a result of suicidal behaviours, or with psychiatric disorders that are closely associated with suicidal behaviours. Following a brief overview of the biochemistry of suicide, current standards of care in the pharmacological management of psychiatric disorders & behavioural dysfunctions associated with the range of suicidal behaviours most often encountered in hospital settings are reviewed.
