The outcomes of hospitalized adolescents 6 months after their hospital discharge was studied. Many of the adolescents were hospitalized because of suicide attempts. Similar studies have shown that 10-18% of hospitalized patients after their release still make a suicide attempt. In addition, thtese patients were more likely to have social/academic deficits and lack of parental care. The effect of follow-up treatment is discussed. with medication treatment being particularly effective. (28 refs.)
