Doll R~~Peto R~~et al
The hazards associated with long term use of tobacco were studied among a sample of 34,439 British male doctors who first responded to a postal questionnaire in 1951. Subjects were assessed from time to time over a 40-year period. A positive association with smoking was confirmed for death from suicide. There were significantly fewer suicides among subjects classified as non-smokers compared to cigarette & other smokers. (45 refs.)
