This paper refers to many other studies that attempt to implicate low levels of 5-HT and 5-HIAA with suicide. However, while a relationship between these 2 chemcicals has been linked with depression, results of 5-HT uptake have been inconsistent with suicide. In this study, researchers decided to measure platelet 5-HT(2A) receptors and found this increased in suicidal patients. Fenfluramine and its effect on prolactin and 5-HT release is also discussed.
