Advances in 3 different areas of research in suicide are provided. A historical background of various views on suicide are also given. The preclinical section discusses studying “suicide” in animals to understand aggression & impulsivity as it relates to suicide. Under clinical neuroscience, studies of the neuroendocrine & neurotransmitter systems are discussed. In the clinical therapeutics section, combining different treatment approaches is suggested for most effective treatment. (42 refs.)
