This study compared the rank ordering of age standardized suicide rates of immigrants in Australia for 2 periods, 1961-70 & 1979-90. Rates were compared between each period & with the country of birth for each period. Comparisons were made for 11 countries. Results showed increased rates in Australia compared with country of birth. Findings are used to argue, among other things, the important influence of premigrant experiences on subsequent suicide rates in the host country. (34 refs.)
