The case of a 21-year-old woman who attempted suicide by ingesting poisonous mushrooms is described. An immediate liver transplant saved the patient, but after a period of relative well-being her pervasive suicidal ideation returned. The difficulties of managing her case & the decision to perform an organ transplant in a person who has attempted suicide are discussed. (6 refs.)
