A theoretical model of adolescent suicidal behaviour was examined separately for 192 male & 329 female junior high school students. The model consisted of 5 constructs: predictor variables of depression, hopelessness, self-esteem & substance use, & the criterion variable, suicide risk. Results showed all relationships were in the predicted direction. The final model reasonably accounted for the data in spite of some gender differences. Hopelessness was not a viable predictor of suicide risk.
