The Ethics of Physician-Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia
Landman W A
In this article, Landman first clarifies the differences among 3 forms of physician assistance in dying, i.e. withholding or withdrawing life support, voluntary euthanasia & physician-assisted suicide. He then summarizes the major arguments for and against physician-assisted suicide & euthanasia. Landman concludes that arguments in support of these practices are ethically defensible, especially those that affirm autonomous & responsible choice, & appeal to the prevention of suffering.
