Much suicide research has been based on assumptions of cause & effect relationships, reductionistic analysis & the individual as the primary unit of analysis. In counterpoint, 6 guiding themes define feminist research. This article traces these 6 themes, illustrating them with suicide research projects. By challenging scientific tradition & promoting active, practical applications, researchers can combine traditional & alternative methodologies to make suicide research more robust. (56 refs.)
