A conceptual model is presented for understanding & responding to youth suicide. Youth suicidal behaviour is discussed from developmental & ecosystemic perspectives, factors of influence, risk & protective factors, & the interaction between these factors. A literature review examines predisposing, precipitating, contributing & protective factors. Strategies to translate ideas into action are discussed & include things such as mental health promotion & early intervention & prevention. (46 refs.)
