The Inuit people of Canada live primarily in the Eastern Arctic, northern Quebec & Labrador. This chapter briefly examines the history of the Inuit & the impact of suicide on Inuit communities. The use of oral narratives as cultural documents is discussed. At the 1994 meeting of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention, Inuit elders shared their own stories of pain & healing. A sample of the stories is presented.
