4 sets of factors are identified & discussed in explaining immigrant suicide in host nations: country of origin; country of destination; selectivity; & demographic compositional differences across groups. Data from 1985-1987 were examined. Some findings were that migrant suicide rates can be explained in part by differences in socio-economic status & background culture. Duration of residence seemed to be relatively unimportant when a proxy for culture of origin was introduced. (30 refs.)
