The first part of this chapter briefly describes the evolution of suicide in Quebec & compares this with trends in Canada & the world. This is followed by a short outline of the methodology used in the Quebec Health Survey & a summary of its major findings, including the prevalence of suicidal ideation & parasuicide & a review of the factors associated with these phenomena. The limitations of these studies are addressed & the results discussed within the context of the literature. (29 refs.)
