Abstract
Juvenile Suicide in Custody: the Untold Story
Professionals in juvenile institutions believe the number of youth suicides in these facilites are vastly underreported. There has been no comprehensive study of juvenile suicides while in custody & newspaper reports are often the only accounts of such incidents. This article reprints a 1997 story from the Houston Chronicle about the suicide of a 16-year-old male at a juvenile boot camp. Police have since arrested 2 supervisors & charged them with altering documents related to this case.
