A representative sample of 1000 Ontario adults answered a mail survey about their opinion of the desirability of changes that would permit physicians to comply with requests by terminally ill patients for measures to hasten their death, & what they would prefer if they were faced with terminal illness. A majority favoured some changes that would allow physicians to help terminally ill patients to die. Most respondents, if faced with a hopeless illness, would choose to bring about their death.
