The prevalence & correlates of sleep problems in adolescents were studied in a sample of 763 French secondary school students. The students answered a self-report questionnaire. As many as 40.8% reported at least one of five sleep disturbances which were highly related to personal & family problems. Suicidal ideation was reported by 38% of the poor sleepers versus 15% of good sleepers. 9% of the poor sleepers reported suicide attempts compared to only 1% of the good sleepers. (19 refs.)
