The impact of financial satisfaction on female suicide attitudes was studied in a national sample of 321 Chinese women. Controlling for alternative predictors of approval of suicide, it was found that the greater the financial satisfaction, the less the approval of suicide. Findings are related to a strain theory of deviant behaviour attitudes & recent developments in Chinese society which foster financial dissatisfaction. A separate analysis of 507 Chinese men found similar results. (20 refs.)
