The relationship between suicidal ideation or attempts & severity of depression, presence of personality disorders & sociodemographic factors was examined in 338 depressed adult in-patients. Suicidal ideation was significantly related to severity of depression, a lower global assessment of functioning the year before hospitalization, & previous psychiatric hospitalizations. None of the predictors of suicidal ideation were related to suicidal attempts. (35 refs.)
