Sociodemographic correlates & temporal trends in suicide among young people, ages 0-20, in Israel were studied. Average yearly rates (1975-1989) for suicide & undetermined causes of death were calculated. Rates were examined by gender, national/religious affiliation, & place of residence for all groups, & by ethnic origin for Jews. Differences did not consistently follow adult patterns. Army service may enhance suicide risk. A worldwide increase in youth suicide was only partially present.
