It is estimated that 10-13% of schizophrenics commit suicide. This presentation noted that many clinical studies of suicide victims with schizophrenia have been comprised by the relatively small numbers of subjects, diagnostic criteria & the populations from which subjects have been selected. 7 studies which have had samples of 15 or more suicide victims were discussed. Some of the characteristics of victims included young adult age, male gender, depressive symptoms, alcoholism & prior attempts.
