Serotonergic indices correlate with more lethal forms of suicidal attempts. This workshop discussed some of the initial applications to suicide research of new techniques for assessing the serotonergic system, e.g. candidate gene studies & neuroimaging. Mann stated that prospective studies are needed to test state & trait characteristics of correlates of suicidal behaviour.
