This workshop discussed strategies to reduce the number of suicides by carbon monoxide poisoning in Australia including: the introduction of legislation enforcing catalytic converters; the insertion of baffles in the exhaust pipe; detectors which turn the engine off if carbon monoxide goes above a certain level; & a chemical alteration to the fuel. Potential problems in the application of these strategies were reviewed. The authors encouraged international efforts to reduce these suicides.
