The authors discussed a large case-control study which collected data on 200 people who committed suicide, 300 who had made medically serious suicide attempts & over 1000 control subjects. The study took place in New Zealand over a period of six years. Initial analyses confirmed high rates of mental disorder in both completed & attempted suicides.
