This study investigated the contribution of Cloninger’s psychobiological personality model to an explanation of gender-specific differences in the efficacy of treatment & in the outcome of suicidal behaviour. Patients with & without a history of deliberate self-poisoning were compared. Results indicate important gender differences. Further study is called for to replicate the findings of this study & to evaluate psycho- & pharmacotherapeutical implications.
