This presentation discussed a study of the effect of gender in suicide with particular reference to the social construction of masculinity. Unstructured interviews were conducted with a group of men aged 17-22. Discourses on coping techniques were analysed & discussed. It was concluded that the formation of small, confidential & supportive discussion groups for marginalized young men would be useful for sharing & developing coping skills, & improving their management of stress.
