The author discussed a study in which the objective was to determine the cause of the disproportionately high levels of suicide among the elderly in Hong Kong. Data was gathered from the Census & Statistics Department of Hong Kong & from the police files of all suicides in one year. This proceeding does not provide any of the study results. It was expected that the this study would enable the Befrienders to address the issue of elderly suicide with the most appropriate interventions.
