This paper outlined an action theoretical approach to the study of suicidal patients & for establishing meaningful communication with people at risk of suicide. The model is based on the view that human behaviour is goal directed, intentional & planned, socially & cognitively steered & regulated. Action theoretical concepts are based on social conventions. Examples of patients’ narratives will be used to illustrate the concept of goal-directed action.
