The authors presented findings from a study of parasuicide in Pakistan. A retrospective case note analysis was done of all index parasuicide admissions to a hospital in Karachi between January 1989-July 1995. 447 cases were identified – the majority of subjects were under the age of 30. Results suggest that marital problems often precipitated the suicide attempts of females. Recommendations are made for legal changes, greater public awareness & research.
