The authors attempted to determine if the dysfunctional attitudes described by Beck could be discerned in the notes of suicidal individuals. 50 suicide notes were assessed by two independent clinicians for evidence of each of Beck’s categories. Evidence was found from each of the categories. A range of demographic variables & suicide factors were associated with increased cognitive distortion. This study has provided a means of assessing the psychological state of suicide victims.
