This presentation outlined previous government strategies to address youth suicide in New Zealand & detailed the processes & components of the national strategy which is under development. Issues involved in formulating a national strategy were discussed, such as the importance of the political environment & of inter-governmental agency support, the difficulties of addressing polarised approaches regarding risk factors for youth suicide, & the importance of having a conceptual framework.
