Ratnayeke first discusses the barriers to suicide prevention in rural areas of Sri Lanka. These include the remoteness of many villages, lack of communication devices, cultural & caste restrictions, & the lack of privacy. A description follows of the efforts of the Befrienders to address these issues & adapt traditional befriending skills to local situations.
