This study evaluated an intervention program designed to reduce hospital admissions for repeated suicidal attempts in a rural Australian community. 122 patients were followed up from November 1995-October 1996. The components of the program & characteristics of the patients are described. Referral patterns were found to reflect the good liaison between the intervention program & the referring sources. In turn, the program counsellor was able to collaborate on treatment issues. (18 refs.)
