This study sought to discover if reduction in psychophysiological arousal during the consequence stage of self-mutilation found in prisoners was also the case for self-mutilators in the general society. Differences in psychophysiological state between current & recovered self-mutilators were also studied. The study found that patterns in prisoners & the general populace were similar, and that the symptomatology between current & recovered self-mutilators was not as great as expected. (33 refs.)
