This study identified suicidal behaviour among heroin addicts at an outpatient clinic in University Hospital, Kuala Lumpur. Of 133 subjects interviewed in 1996, 50 expressed some form of suicidal tendencies. Of these 50, 20 had a history of attempted suicide & only 4 had sought help immediately after their attempt. None of them revealed their suicidal behaviour to the treating physician & none received any professional help specific to their suicidal intentions. Reasons for this are discussed.
