The Methodology, System, and Scope of the Suicide Statistics in Turkey (IN: Suicide Prevention: The Global Context. Proceedings of the 19th Congress of the IASP, March 1997, ed. by R J Kosky et al)

Epidemiological data on suicide in Turkey from 1987-1995 is presented. The crude suicide rate increased from 2.09 to 2.37/100,000 population over the study period. Tables illustrate the percentage of suicides by age group, by causes, by method, & by literacy & educational levels. It is speculated that rapid social change, immigration from rural to urban areas, increasing unemployment & easy access to firearms may be the causes of the increasing trend.
