Young people appear to have less sympathetic attitudes towards suicide & depression than the rest of the adult population. A telephone survey of 800 adults over 24 & 500 16 to 24 year olds from a sample was done to explore this issue further. A worrying 37% of the young sample agreed that depressed people should pull themselves together, 20% strongly agreed. A smaller proportion (27%) of the older sample agreed. Authors claim that young people have less understanding of depression.
