The University of Toronto is developing an academic program around suicide & suicidal behaviors. Their initial research strategy is: formation of a Suicide Research Unit, development of a Canadian Registry of Suicide & Parasuicidal Behaviors & the purposeful study of high-risk special populations, including the severely & persistently mentally ill, aboriginal peoples, youth & the elderly. They hope to identify common causal mechanisms across these special populations. (12 refs)
