Reports on the 1997 project meeting of the WHO/EURO Multicentre Study on Parasuicide. Their goal is to enhance suicidological research & improve suicide prevention in Europe, focusing on parasuicide patients (patients engaging in nonfatal suicidal behavior). Throughout Europe, about 165 per 100,000 inhabitants, aged 15 or older, require medical treatment each year for the consequences of nonfatal suicidal acts. No previous study of this size has even been conducted. (3 refs.)
