A workshop on euthanasia & physician-assisted suicide was held in conjunction with the IASP March 1997 conference. Introductory remarks were by Professor Schudel, emphasizing the Dutch medical experience & Rev. John Fleming, an Australian Catholic priest. It was agreed that the criteria for euthanasia had widened, beginning with the terminally ill in great suffering, embracing the chronically physically ill & moving on to include the chronically psychologically distressed.
